![]() just for your information, on page 134, of the September/October ELLE girl magazine has lil Miss Sara Watkins in the left corner!
i just saw this and literally dropped the magazine when i flipped onto the page and saw her! She is an ELLE Girl "Dare to Be Different All-Star" and it pictures her and her fiddle sitting on a stool with a caption that reads: "Sara Watkins, 23 This homeschooled iconoclast is the fiddler for the folk-pop-fusion, bluegrass-rooted band Nickel Creek. Impressed? The Grammy people were- NC snagged a trophy this year. Up next? 'I just want to keep fiddling around.' " ![]() ((i will try to post a pic of the page later on tonight! ))

I AM impressed. Not with Sara, because we know she's awesome enough to be on the cover of ANY magazine. I'm impressed with ELLE girl magazine for putting such an AWESOME AWESOME role model for young girls in their magazine. They couldn't have picked anyone better for girls to look up to. I'm so proud of them!!
EDIT: I also wanted to say that Sara looks so pretty in that picture!

Wow! I agree with Mel. Sara is such an amazing role model for any young girl. Not just for her fiddle playing, but Sara can look absolutely beautiful and keep her clothes on. I think it's really great that ELLE magazine put her in there. I'm going to have to go out and buy one. Who's on the cover?

That is awesome!! Sara is a great role model, and we need those now sense our culture seems to put out the image that you have to be skinny and wear as little clothes as possiable to be beautful.
GO SARA!!!

That is so awesome that Sara was in the magazine! i would totally flip as well if i saw her in it. Honestly everyone must hear the word about this group. i mean, they have wonderful music and they are totally modest in everything they do. personally, that is a really good group right there. Course, everyone here already knows!

Hey I was homeschooled too. I just graduated and am going to Winthrop University. It's a small state school near where I live.
I also thought it was realy cool that they were homeschooled. It is realy inspiring to see that they are doing what they realy love, right out of high school. I can't wait untill I figure out what I am supposed to be doing on this earth. I sure wish that my path was that direct.

I wish I had been homeschooled. I hate the school system, and although I know it works for many people I'm not sure it's worth that other 35% (<-- made up number) of us who don't fit into the model of the perfect student.

hey Meghan, did you write that, about "You're such a good God? I like it!
Today was one of Those days, the sugar cane was catching the light just right and the dark jagged mountains behind me shadowed by clouds. The top was down and the wind was whipping my hair. When I stopped I could hear it in the cane like thousands of chorus girls all bending. It was your songs though, your handmade songs, so precious to me...that made the rest sing. |

elbereth,
You Like Dylan. I had the weidest but normal for me thing happen. I was singing a Dylan song and these people were just waking up upstairs. We talked a little and I told them I had just gotten the sound-track from the Martin Scorcese Dylan Documentary. The girl said, "Oh ya, my mom used to date him." So I said, "Well what's your mom's name?" And she said, "Ramona." That happened last week. Sometimes I swear I am Forest Gump. "Run Forest Run...." |

I saw NC for the first time last night. Stood only a feet from them. I loved every song. It was my only introduction to them really. And I want to marry Sara. Glad to be in good company of other fans!

Sara
Sara is a lady. It's got to be hard to do this night after night and keep your composure. She is gorgeous, and I am not sure that she knows that, so much the better. I cannot imagine how cool it would be to have a brother that loves music that you can play with. Some people are just blessed.
I am happy to know who wrote those lyrics. Thanks! Sandie |

(Well the last line to his song is actually "I'll be a good boy from now on" but I didn't want to confuse people

last line
You're so funy! Ya I always think it's funny the gender in songs. James Taylor wrote this song for a musical that was a woman singing, but now he sings it as if he is the woman, but I don't think anyone even thinks about it. It's way cool that a guy could have that much empathy for a woman's siduation anyway.
I went to Glen Philips website and am so glad to find him. I have been trying to find the guy that played with Sean and Sara in Park City at Sundance and am thinking that is him but no idea. He was REALLY funny! He had this song about feeling guilty for 'stuff he was doing' and promised God that he would quit if he would help him find his dog. Is this that song or that artist? Sandie |

Well, it's not so much that he's feeling guilty about the stuff he does. His dad wants to kill the dog so the songs mostly him driving his dad to the neighboor's house saying he'll stop doing all the bad things ("I will never get high, I will never jack off/I will be all the things I should but not/ I'll be a good boy from now on") if God saves the dog.

Oh that's it! I remember now. Yea! It is the same guy. That is really sad though...
I remember thinking it was really funny, well the ending is funny. He gets the dog back and well, he doesn't stop .... ...so I am Soo glad I finally found him! Thanks! There is a lot of talent out there that you don't always hear except word of mouth. I got to the venue late, what's new, and I missed the guy's name. I have some good friends from Toronto. So much good music up there it boggles my mind. I love Maui but am missing the music on the mainland. Like I really want to go to the benefit concert in Cal. I will be in LA in October but the Creek will be on the other coast. |

Can't We All Just Enjoy the Creek?
I felt obligated to post for the public school-ers on the forum.
I was never really a good student; not very driven to excell. I probably could have turned that around with some more one-on-one, but I like where I am, now. I wouldn't be here if I'd taken a different path. I guess what I'm trying to say is... Public School, Private School, or Home School. We're all smart enough to enjoy Nickle Creek. My co-workers love them, too --I hook my iPod up to my little speakers and we jam. Of course, Nickle Creek isn't all I have on my iPod, but I find that more people come over to ask me questions when Nickle Creek is playing. Coincidence, you say? I think not. I think it's the power of the Creek. I'm just very upset that I haven't been able to see them live... ![]() As for Sara Watkins, she rocks. She's intelligent, real, and beautiful of spirit. I'd take that over glamorous, skinny and filthy rich any day of the week and twice on Sunday. YOU GO GIRL!!! _________________ I keep lookin' up awaiting your return but my greatest fear will be that you will crash and burn and I won't feel your fire |

first, I was a horrible student, my teachers hated me, so my parents homeschooled me from 7th to 12th grade. The only year I was actually at home was 7th grade, after that I did tutorials on mondays. then halfway through 10th grade I started going to the local community college, so when i graduated I already had 58 credits towards a real college. Homeschooling rocks, and I had more time to focus on my music instead of wasting time with too much pointless public school homework. the other thing is.. Nickel Creek is incredible live. If you don't worship them enough now, you will certainly love them all the more after seeing them live. I never thougt I could obsess too much about a band, but I have proven myself wrong, because I am obsessing over Nickel Creek. |

Sara in the Mags
Frankly, I'm a little surprised and disappointed that Sara doesn't get much, much more press coverage. Undoubtedly, she has too much class to attract the attention of the tabloids, but I would think she would be constantly in mags that are competition for Elle, not to mention anything and everything having to do with music.
