Jack Johnson or John Mayor?

Which one do you like better?

I know that these are very different people and styles, but Jack Johnson is Hawaiian and is the one for me.

Jack Johnson is the man! I love almost everything I hear from him.

Of course, John Mayer is different and he may be from my state, but there's just something about the way he sings (like he's making out with the microphone) that I can't stand listening to. The John Mayer Trio on the other hand is excellent to listen to. I acknowledge his talent, but I just can't stand John Mayer's solo stuff.

John Mayor is an excellent musician, though. He is also very lucky... He's sponsored by Martin and Fender, having his own styles in each of them. Man....

But Jack Johnson is so cool. He is in my TOP 5 COOLEST GUYS list. He plays the ukulele like Sara, my bride. Did you see him on ACL?

John Mayer. I get too bored with Jack Johnson. Every song sounds the same. I like how John has recently branched out more into jazz. I recommend Try - John Mayer Trio. It's a great cd.

I love both.

But I only like John Mayer's old stuff. He used to be great when he used acoustic guitars, but now it's all electric. He doesn't really play many of his hits at shows. In trying to ''bring back the blues'' he's lost a lot of poularity. However, he will always be an AMAZING guitarist and lyricist to me (with the excpetion of ''Your Body Is A Wonderland'')

Jack Johnson has really catchy melodies and great acoustic rhythms. His lyrics are great as well. It's nice to see a folk/ acousitc guy who's successful as in mainstream pop.

Neither Mayer nor Johnson have the greatest vocals though. But they are certainly different and easily identifiable.

If you played one of the non-hits of either artist for me, I wouldn't be able to tell you who was who. They are both way too bland and have too much production in their music.

now you can't really compare the two. Thier styles are vastly different from each other and both are phenominal in thier respective styles. In other words, I like both. title=Stick

Yeah they are... but on the album they sound awesome together! (Matt with his Bob Dylanish voice, and Jack with his sweet, nice, pure voice.)

E-rock, how can you say this? Have you heard the John Mayer Trio CD? Its live and its just 3 instruments, drums, guitar, and bass, and its amazing.
Jack's first CD was very simple in production too; guitar, drums, bass, and sometimes piano or slide guitar ala Ben Harper.
So, what do you mean by too much production?

Correct. I think e-rock is just making a generalization based on what little he has heard of either of these two artists. Or perhaps he associates them with other artists who they don't actually sound like. Whatever the case may be, I'm sure he's guilty. title=Stick I say we force him to reconsider.

Based on what I have seen in the Song Title Game thread I would say e-rock's ability to accept a wide range of musical differences into his tastes would allow him to possibly accept Jack Johnson and/or John Mayor (*cough* Trio) as well. Too much production? Eh bad excuse. Booooo...

Alright I'm back. I have heard the new John Mayer and it's better than his other material, but he just doesn't have the voice to pull off the blues. The music is very good though. I realized when I said they are over-produced that it wasn't the right word, there is something about both their styles that I just don't care for. I can't put my finger on it. I really don't like John Mayer's voice and Jack Johnson's is just too bland and lacks anything that could grab me. What I should have said about the production was that I just don't care for it. I hope that clears things up.

Considering you started a thread in which you mispelled one of the artist's names, I find this post rather ironic, personally.

At first I thought that John Mayor was okay but then I heard that he was very rude to Norah Jones who is one of my favorite artists. They had even performed together earlier. So I don't listen to him anymore.

on the topic sorta- john mayer asked my cousin Tyler to play guitar on his tour, but my cousin already agreed to do the Farewell Tour with his band Audio Adrenaline, so he couldn't. and that really sucks. because i could have met John Mayer.

At first I saw it posted on another website that he had been rude to her, but since it was just what one person said, I thought a little badly of him but didn't believe it comepletely. But then there were replies from other people who said they saw the same thing and one person actually explained what happened. Apparently it happened at the Grammys when Norah was a presenter and John Mayer had won. When he came up to accept the award, Norah had her arms out ready to hug him in congratulations, but he walked right past her to whoever was holding the award.
I know it may not be true, because some people could just misinterpret it and just think he was being mean even though he didn't intend to, but it sounds to me like he was pretty impolite.title=

Jack Johnson, definately. and it's not so much that I enjoy Jack Johnson's music more than John Mayer, because they're both very talented, but Jack Johnson is just a better person, in general. Pardon my French, but, John Mayer is quite the asshole.

I think Jack Johnson is talented, but I don't think he should get too much credit for the Curious George soundtrack. Most of the tracks were written by other people. On top of that, I'm pretty sure referring to him as Cap'n Jack is a bit unsportsmanlike, savvy?

Plus, John Mayer is a rocking blues guitarist.

^True. But Jack Johnson writes beautiful songs that are his own. Curious George soundtrack shoudn't even really be considered in the whole deal. Listen to Jack Johnsons albums for the full effect.

Plus, John Mayer makes out with the mic.

It goes like this.

Jack Johnson > John Mayer

John Mayer Trio > John Mayer

Jack Johnson is right up there by Nickel Creek for me. I think John Mayer tries to be too much like Dave Matthews, and Dave is A LOT better. If you want to check out 0recordings of his shows at archive.org (it's 100% legal!)
